LUZINETE

LUZINETE

Written, produced and directed by filmmaker Carla Di Bonito, a Brazilian based in London, the short film Luzinete has become an international phenomenon, collecting 221 awards and touring 44 countries with screenings at prestigious film festivals around the world.
Inspired by a personal story, the film depicts the final hours of Nete (played by actress Fernanda Peviani), a woman marked by loneliness, chemical dependency and HIV, but also by a visceral humanity and unconditional devotion to her son Raphael (portrayed by Milo Santos).
With cinematography by Martina Errica, the short stands out for its intimate and courageous gaze on love, loss and resilience.
In 2024, Luzinete was selected as the Best European Short at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) in Canada, and received special recognitions from Wild Filmmaker in parallel events during the Cannes, Venice and Berlin festivals. Acclaimed by international critics, the film has been praised for its poetic intensity and for its deep, sensitive portrayal of a woman made invisible by society, yet full in her complexity.
“I made Luzinete as a tribute not only to the sister I lost, but to all women whose stories are reduced to their final acts. I wanted to reclaim them in their entirety: flawed, loving, vibrant, human,” declares Carla Di Bonito, director and screenwriter.
With dual representation — carrying the name of both Brazil and the United Kingdom — Luzinete continues its trajectory of global impact, moving audiences and establishing itself as one of the most awarded works in contemporary short filmmaking.
